Guest Speakers: Oklahoma Governor Candidate, Dr. Mark Sherwood and State Treasurer Candidate, State Rep. Todd Russ

Dr. Mark SherwoodDr. Mark Sherwood, 56, announced on September of 2021 his candidacy for Oklahoma Governor.

Dr. Sherwood was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in nearby Berryhill. He is a certified Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and both he and his wife Michele L. Neil-Sherwood, Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) founded the Functional Medical Institute, a full-time wellness-based medical practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He is also a 24-year retired veteran of the Tulsa Police Department, where he logged a decade of service on the department’s SWAT Team.

He is a former Oklahoma state and regional bodybuilding champion, and ex-professional baseball player. Additionally, Dr. Mark traveled the world for over 10 years with the world-famous Power Team. Mark is a motivational speaker whose presentations are sought by audiences nationwide.

The Sherwoods have co-authored three Amazon #1 best-selling books together, The Quest for Wellness, Fork Your Diet, and Surviving the Garden of Eatin’. They have been seen on national TV, been quoted on CNN, featured on CBN, and are regular contributors to many national publications. Their full-length movie, Fork Your Diet, has over 15 million minutes viewed in the US and UK. Their second motion picture, The Prayer List, was just released worldwide. Their most recent film, WWJR, is set for release Easter 2022.


State Rep. Todd RussState Rep. Todd Russ, 60, announced on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 that he will seek the Republican nomination for State Treasurer in 2022. Russ is completing his sixth term in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. State Treasurer Randy McDaniel announced earlier this month he would not seek reelection.

Russ has a B.S. in International Finance, Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Also attended Graduate School of Banking, University of Colorado and School of the Bible, Berean University.

Russ has more than 35 years of banking experience. He served as President and CEO of Washita State Bank in Burns Flat from 2003-2008. During his tenure, Russ took one of the smallest banks in the state and doubled its assets, and was rated the number one bank in Oklahoma for ORE (return on equity) for six straight quarters in his peer group. Russ sold the majority of his bank stock and began management consulting with banks and businesses in 2008.

Russ, who lives in Cordell, has represented House District 55, which covers parts of five western Oklahoma counties (Beckham, Greer, Kiowa, Roger Mills, and Washita) since 2009.

Russ is a fourth-generation resident of Western Oklahoma. He graduated from Sentinel High School in 1979 where he was active in Future Farmers of America, receiving the State Farmer degree his senior year. Russ worked as a welder to help fund his college education. He then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Finance. Russ is also a graduate of the University of Colorado Graduate School of Banking. He has specialized training in Asset/Liability Management and Interest Rate Risk Analysis.

Todd is happily married for 27 years to his wife, Khristy, a 20-year veteran public school teacher who also has taught both at Canadian Valley Technology Center and the Western Technology Center. They have three children, Ryan, Lacey and Lauren.
